NAPPANEE - Donald E. Abel, 66, of Nappanee, died at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at Elkhart General Hospital, where he was admitted Sunday.
He was born Dec. 28, 1946, in Elkhart to Paul and Evelyn (Roose) Abel.
He was a 1964 graduate of Wakarusa High School and lived his lifetime in this area.
Don was owner of Franklin Coach in Nappanee. He was very active in the community serving on the Nappanee Smokey Stovers Fire Department for 36 years; seven of those years as chief.
Don helped to start the Butch Nine Scholarship committee. He also served on the Fourth of July committee, Nappanee Redevelopment Commission from 1994-2007 and the NorthWood Dollars for Scholars committee.
He was a former Elkhart County Councilman. Don was named Nappanee Citizen of the year in 2000.
Surviving are his sons and grandchildren, Jim (Heidi) Abel, and their daughters, Sydney and Payton of Fishers and Chris (Mindy) Abel and their children, Bryce and Katie of Nappanee; sister Becky (Johnnie) Moody of Granger; brothers Steve Abel of Nappanee and Rick (Gail) Abel of Wakarusa; and his former wife, Rita Tucker of Wakarusa.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and for one hour prior to the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at the funeral home. The Rev. Ruben Chupp, pastor of North Main Street Mennonite Church will officiate. Burial will take place with full fireman honors, including a final call at the Nappanee Fire Department and final salute, in Olive West Cemetery.

- GOSHEN - Carolyn A. Albrecht, 84, Magnolia Court, died Friday at 7:15 a.m. at her residence.
She was born Aug. 2, 1928 in Elkhart County, to Orvan and Grace (Mishler) Bontrager.
She married Nevin R. Albrecht Dec. 24, 1947.
She is survived by her husband; daughters, Lola (Merrill) Gingerich, Milford, and Sharlene (the Rev. Donald) Patterson, Kalona, Iowa; sons, Jerry (Barbara) Albrecht, Goshen, and Dr. Lynn (Kathy) Albrecht, Edwardsburg, Mich.; stepmother, Esther Greenawalt Bontrager, Goshen; brother, Marion Bontrager, Goshen; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter who died in 1950; sister, Mildred Wildeman; and brothers, Devon Bontrager and Maynard Bontrager.
She worked as a secretary at Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary, Elkhart, and also worked part-time at Bayer. She was a member of Belmont Mennonite Church.
She was a 1946 graduate of Hesston College and Bible School, Hesston, Kan. She volunteered at Ten Thousand Villages and also at Africa Inter-Mennonite Mission. She enjoyed quilting, singing, playing piano with family members, gardening with Nevin and spending time with her family.
There will be a memorial gathering Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Belmont Mennonite Church, 925 Oxford St., Elkhart, where a memorial service will take place Saturday at 10 a.m. The Revs. Larry Rohrer and Mandy Yoder will officiate.
Private family burial will take place at Yellow Creek Cemetery.

Albrecht, Carolyn Augusta Bontrager, 84, of Goshen, IN died April 12, 2013 at the same place. She was born August 2, 1928 in Elkhart County, IN to Orvan and Grace (Mishler) Bontrager. On December 24, 1947 at Topeka, IN she was married to Nevin Albrecht, who survives.
Surviving are children, Jerry (Barbara), Lynn (Kathy), Lola (Merrill) Gingerich, and Sharlene (Don) Patterson; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, her stepmother, Esther Greenawalt Bontrager, and a brother, Marion Bontrager.
An infant daughter, two brothers, Maynard Bontrager, and Devon Bontrager, and a sister, Mildred Wideman preceded her in death.
Memorial services were held April 20, 2013 at Belmont Mennonite Church, Elkhart IN with burial in Yellow Creek Cemetery, Goshen, IN.

Abram was a dairy farmer with his father. While farming he was also was employed by the Franconia township road crew. After retiring he was employed by George S. Snyders Estate, Hatfield, PA. He was an active member of Salford Mennonite Church, where he spent his spare time assisting with the cemetery grounds.
Survived by his wife and son, Paul Alderfer and wife, Judith of Souderton, PA; a grandson, Scott Alderfer and wife Shawn Marie of Red Hill, PA; a granddaughter, Kendra L. Hartley, a companion Cory Ruth of Quakertown, PA; eight great-grandchildren, one great great grandson and a sister, Grace Kratz of Souderton, PA.
He was preceded in death by: a brother, Jacob Alderfer and sister, Alma Kratz. Funeral service was June 9, 2103 at 7 PM at Salford Mennonite Church, Harleysville, PA. A private burial was at Salford Mennonite Cemetery.

Alderfer, Catherine T. Greaser, age 94, of Lansdale; formerly of Souderton, PA died December 20, 2013 at Dock Woods. She was born in Lederach, PA Samuel Z. & Rae B. (Tyson) Greaser. She was the loving wife of the late Henry R. Alderfer for 56 years. Catherine was a member of Souderton Mennonite Church. She also played in the Chimes Choir at the Dock Woods Community. She had a group of friends who started "The Gang Picnic" and met annually in Blooming Glen.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Grasse & husband, Warren L. of Telford, PA, Doreen Clemmer & husband, Leroy M. of Harleysville, PA; her two grandsons, Christopher Clemmer & wife, Corey of Harleysville, PA, Eric Clemmer & wife, Lisa of Phoenix, MD; her two granddaughters, Melanie Anders & husband, Steven of Telford, PA, Lorina Hunsberger & husband, Travis of Telford, PA and her ten great-grandchildren - Wade, Ashlyn, Peyton, Reese, Kendall, Marley, Audyn, Ella, Ethan and Rylan.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents and husband, her sister, Beulah Souder.
A funeral service was December 27, 2013 at 11:00 am at Dock Woods Community Chapel, Lansdale, PA. Burial took place at Souderton Mennonite Cemetery.

GOSHEN - Helen Wade Alderfer, 94, of Waterford Crossing, Goshen, died Sept. 5, 2013.
She was born Aug. 27, 1919, in Whiteside County, Sterling, Ill., to Clark Wade and Mary Graber Conrad Wade. Helen grew up on the family farm and graduated from Sterling High School and Goshen College.
She married Edwin Stover Alderfer on Aug. 12, 1944, in Sterling. He died in 2004.
Surviving are one brother, Harold C. Wade; and four daughters, Ann (Ned Kauffman), Faith (Rod Summer), Mary (Merle Snyder) and Amy (Steve Bell). She is also survived by four grandchildren, Seth Kauffman, Greta Kauffman, Chase Snyder and Sophie Snyder; and four great-grandchildren.
Her son, Eric Alderfer, is deceased.
Helen, along with her husband, Ed, was active with the Mennonite Church in Canton, Ohio, and Barto, Fla., (Civilian Public Service Camp), the Philippine Islands (Mennonite Central Committee), the mission church and school in Culp, Ark., Christopher Dock Mennonite High School in Lansdale, Pa., Kingview and North Scottdale churches in Scottdale, Pa., and College Mennonite Church in Goshen. Helen taught for 11 years and was an editor for the Mennonite Publishing House for 25 years, working with publications including Christian Living magazine and On The Line. Her work also involved her in the wider church, where she served on the Faith, Life and Strategy Commission, with the Mennonite Central Committee Board and in conference offices. She led adult retreats and met children in school settings. A collection of her poems, "The Mill Grinds Fine," was published in 2008.
Helen willed her body to the IU Medical School. A memorial stone in West Goshen Cemetery for Helen and Ed includes a haiku written by Helen: "Two who loved the earth and all its riches, have heard the call and gone home."
A memorial service will take place Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at College Mennonite Church in Goshen. Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church.
Memorials may be given to College Mennonite Church Student Aid Fund.

Alderfer, Helen Wade, 94, of Goshen, Elkhart Co., IN died September 5, 2013 at the same place. She was born August 27, 1919 at Sterling, IL to Clark and Mary Graber (Conrad) Wade. On August 12, 1944 she was married to Edwin Stover Alderfer, who is deceased.

He was born August 30, 1986, in Morgantown, Pa., a son of LeRoy S., Jr. and Fern M. (Martin) Allgyer.
On Nov. 3, 2012, in Barnett, he was united in marriage to Rosilee Hindal, daughter of Steve and Judy Hindal. She survives at the home.
Paul was a school teacher at the Ridge View Mennonite School and was a member of the Ridge View Mennonite Church in Barnett, Mo.
In addition to his wife, Rosie, he is survived by his parents, LeRoy and Fern Allgyer of Whittington; his brothers, James M. Allgyer, husband of Corinna Wiens of Ewing, Gabriel M. Allgyer of Whittington, Virgil M. Allgyer, husband of Sharlene Rohrer, and Daniel M. Allgyer, husband of Violet Stoltzfus, both of Mt. Vernon; his sisters, Marigold M. Zimmerman, wife of James Zimmerman, and Rose M. Zimmerman, wife of Duane Zimmerman, both of Ewing; his paternal grandfather, LeRoy S. Allgyer of Myerstown, Pa.; his maternal grandmother, Pauline M. Martin of Narvon, Pa.; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Joy M. Allgyer; his paternal grandmother, Lizzie S. Allgyer; and his maternal grandfather, Chester M. Martin.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 15, at the Beulah Mennonite Church near Versailles, Mo. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Beulah Cemetery near Barnett with James Allgyer, Gabriel Allgyer, Virgil Allgyer, Daniel Allgyer, Austin Hindal and Gordon Ebersole serving as casketbearers. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6: to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Beulah Mennonite Church.

He was involved in the construction industry all his life and was the managing partner of Porter Bluff Construction. He served as minister for 10 years at the Grays Prairie Mennonite Church.

Born on December 8, 1929, in Delaware Twp., Juniata Co.,PA to John L. and Beulah S. (Shelley) Auker. His wife of nearly 63 years, Marian L. (Auker) Auker, whom he married on March 19, 1950, survives. He a member of Lauver's Mennonite Church, for 40 years he served as the District Treasurer for the Mennonite Disaster Service.
Survived by his wife Marian and three sons; Robert P. Auker, Sr. and his wife Joyce, of Mifflintown, Steven J. Auker, of Port Royal, Daniel C. Auker and his wife Brenda, of Mifflintown; one brother, John M. Auker and his wife Alta, of Thompsontown; one sister, Joann Yoder and her husband Ted, of Belleville, one sister-in-law, Rena M. Auker, of Mifflintown and he leaves behind 9 grandchildren, Tammy Haas, Shelly Gerberich, Robert Auker, Jr., Amy Zeigler, Joni Auker, Kyle Auker, Kelsey Auker, Brent Auker and Eli Auker, also 7 great grandchildren and one step-great granddaughter.
One grand daughter, Kayla E. Auker and one brother, Earl R. Auker preceded him in death.

She was a member of the Richland Mennonite Church. Maggie enjoyed sending cards and encouraging others. She also did some driving for her Amish friends in earlier years.
She is survived by her son, John G. Auker, husband of Martha Weaver Auker of Denver, PA.; a daughter, Rose, married to James Troyer of Newmanstown; 10 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. She was the last of her siblings.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robert L. Auker in May 2011; sister, Anna Mary Good Weber; brothers, Harvey, Cloyd, Henry, and William Good; and two great-grandchildren.

MOUNT PLEASANT MILLS - William R. Auker, 78, of Mount Pleasant Mills, died on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at his home.
William was born Jan. 10, 1935, in Lancaster County, a son of the late Adam and Lizzie (Redcay) Auker. He was the husband of Edna M. (Gehman) Auker, who preceded him on July 4, 2010.
He was a member of Stauffer Old Order Mennonite Church at Riverview, Liverpool.
William is survived by nine children and their spouses, Linda G. and Melvin B. Stauffer, of Mount Pleasant Mills, Leon G. and Anna Mae Auker, Ellen G. and Daniel B. Stauffer, Mabel G. and Jonathan B. Stauffer, and Susan G. and Eugene Stauffer, all of Port Trevorton, William G. and Ellen Auker, of Peebles, Ohio, Paul G. and Rachel Auker, Samuel G. and Rosene Auker, and Janet and Norman Weaver, all of Mount Pleasant Mills; 64 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Martin and Naomi Auker and Aaron and Annabelle Auker, all of Liverpool; four sisters, Sue Martin, of Ohio, Ruth Auker, of Liverpool, Annie Auker, of Port Trevorton, and Sadie Auker, of Liverpool; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Auker; eight grandchildren; a brother, Paul Auker, in childhood; and a brother-in-law, Daniel Martin.

Lola May Basinger, 96 died at 1:20 p.m. March 3, 2013 at Willow Ridge, Bluffton. She was born Sept. 27, 1916, in Roanoke, Illinois, to the late Rudolph and Matilda (Stalter) Schertz.
On July 8, 1948, she married L. Eugene Basinger and he died July 1, 2011.
She retired from Lima Convalescent Home as a registered nurse. She had also nursed in Chicago, Washington, D.C., Virginia and Ohio. She served as a camp nurse Civilian Public Service in World War II, which is where she met her husband, Gene.
Mrs. Basinger was a member of First Mennonite Church, Bluffton. She was a graduate of Mennonite School of Nursing, Bloomington, Illinois, and Goshen College, Goshen Indiana.
Survivors include two sons Doug (John Flickinger) Basinger of San Francisco, Calif., Jerome (Pam) Basinger of Chesterton, Ind.; a daughter, Debra Stechschulte of Coldwater, Ind,; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A brother, Marvin Schertz, and two sisters, Alta Glick and Doris Liechty, preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at First Mennonite Church, Bluffton. Revs. Steve Yoder and Louise Wideman officiating. Burial will take place in Ebenezer Mennonite Cemetery. Friends and family may call Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

He was born Nov. 2, 1918, at Strasburg, Pa., and was a son of the late David W. and Ida Myers Batterman.
At the age of 16, he moved to Harrisonburg, Va., where he attended Eastern Mennonite School. He was a machinist and welder and was employed at Batterman's Machine Shop and later Truck Enterprises. After retirement, he worked part time at Dynamic Aviation. During WWII, he served four years in alternate service at the Grottoes Civilian Public Service Camp. He was a member of Peake Mennonite Church.
On Dec. 17, 1941, he was united in marriage to the former Evelyn Rhodes, who preceded him in death on Nov. 25, 2011.
He is survived by a daughter, Sue Rodes and husband, Elden, of Mount Crawford; six grandchildren, Christie Rhodes (Linden) of Singers Glen, Kevin Knicely of Charlottesville, Va., Valerie Golladay (Mike) of Harrisonburg, Bryan Rodes (Lola) of Bridgewater, Va., Craig Rodes (Amanda) and Gloria Rodes of Mount Crawford; four stepgrandchildren, Karen Martin, Jonathon Good, Kathleen Spiggle and Judith Berry; five great- grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lois B. Heller of Lititz, Pa.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn B. Good; two sons-in-law, Fred H. Knicely and Glen G. Good; a brother, Jacob Batterman; and a sister, Reba B. Ours.
A funeral service will be held at Pike Mennonite Church in Harrisonburg at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013, with Pastor Elam Heatwole officiating. Burial will follow at Pike Mennonite Church Cemetery.

MILLERSBURG - Ada J. Beachy, 84, of Millersburg, died at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, at home.
She was born Nov. 1, 1928, in Yoder, Kan., to Jonas L. and Lizzie (Stutzman) Keim.
On March 19, 1953, in Reno County, Kan., she married Daniel M. Beachy. He died Nov. 5, 2009.
Surviving are three sons, Maynard and Allen (Cindy) Beachy, both of Goshen, and Mark Beachy of Millersburg; siblings Emma (Calvin) Zehr of Goshen, Clara Mae Keim of Sarasota, Fla., Alvin Keim of Millersburg, Atlee (Wilma) Keim of Yoder and Leander Jay (Anna) Kein of Bronson, Mich.; grandchildren Kyle Allen (Syrinity) Beachy and Veronica (Chris) Galbreath; and great-grandchildren Promise and Liam Beachy.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and two brothers, Henry and Junia Keim.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, and all day Thursday, April 18, at Leonard Hostetler's home, 3550 S. 1000 W. Millersburg. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 19, at the same residence. Burial will be in Bontrager Cemetery, Middlebury.

ANN ARBOR - Barbara "Bobbi" Beck, 67, of Coldwater Lake, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014 from 3 - 7 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater. A memorial service will be held at the Lockport Mennonite Church in Stryker, Ohio on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 at 12 p.m., with Pastor Rick Nohr officiating. A gathering will also be held at the church prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Bobbi was born Nov. 2, 1946 in Parsons, W.Va. to Earl and Wilda (Fansler) Nine while her family was traveling. Bobbi was raised in Adrian and Hudson, graduating from Hudson High School in 1964. She went on to Jackson Business College where she received her Associates degree. Bobbi married Donald R. Beck on Aug.12, 1967.
Bobbi worked at Fleetmate Trucking for 24 years before retiring and at LaChoy Food Products for eight years before that, both in Archbold, Ohio. Donald and Bobbi lived in Stryker, Ohio for many years and bought a lake home at Coldwater Lake in 1987. They became residents at Coldwater Lake in 2006.
Bobbi attended Pine Ridge Bible Church in Michigan, was a member of Lockport Mennonite Church in Stryker, Ohio and was active in the O.C.C.L. (Ohio Child Conservation League) in Stryker, Ohio. Bobbi was a very active grandma. She enjoyed baking for friends and family and her children thought of her as "The Best Cook Ever." She was a very artistic person, enjoying several types of painting. She will be remembered by her family for always being very generous and being a great wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Beck is survived by her husband, Donald R. Beck of Coldwater Lake; her son Dustin R. (Angela) Beck of Ypsilanti; her daughter Brooke (Craig) Scheidler of Coldwater; her brother Roger Nine of Ludington; and her grandchildren Hunter and Kalin Scheidler.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

GOSHEN - Elizabeth Beck, 88, of Goshen, died at 5:42 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at her daughter's residence, surrounded by her family.
She was born Nov. 25, 1924, in Reno County, Kan., to David and Mattie (Yoder) Schrock.
Elizabeth was a lifetime area resident.
She married Orval J. Beck June 29, 1946, in Wakarusa. He preceded her in death April 15, 2007.
Mrs. Beck was a homemaker and enjoyed being a mother. She was a member of Holdeman Mennonite Church her entire life. She was very active in the church, taking part in sewing, teaching Sunday school and Bible school. She was a faithful prayer warrior.
Surviving are her sons, Gregory (Karen) Beck of Elkhart and Duane (Kathy) Beck and Max (Melanie) Beck, both of Goshen; daughters Kathleen (Terry) Martin of Knoxville, Tenn., Nedra (Les) Gnagey, of Goshen; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; brother Edward Schrock of Goshen; sisters Sue Kurtz and Barbara (Lowell) Weaver, both of Goshen, Alma (Gene) Bontreger of LaGrange and Mary (Ray) Yoder of Middlebury; her stepmother, Jane Puchala of Roseland; and stepbrothers David (Karen) Shrock of Indianapolis and Bob Shrock of South Bend.

Miss Beery was born July 27, 1924, in Rockingham County, and was a daughter of the late Walter R. and Mary F. Shank Beery.
She was a rug weaver, homemaker and a member of the Pleasant View Old Order Mennonite Church.
Surviving are three sisters, Vada Rhodes of Dayton, and Vera Showalter and Lois Good, both of Harrisonburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Miss Beery was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Brubaker and Lydia Ann Beery.
The ministers of the church will conduct a funeral service Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Pleasant View Old Order Mennonite Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The body will be taken back to her home, where friends and family may call.

She was born in Goshen, Ind., on July 22, 1948, the daughter of the late Annetta (Martin) and William Weaver, who survives her of Goshen, Ind.
She was a member of Mount Pleasant Mennonite Church, Harrisonburg.
Lucy was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She lived courageously with MS all of her adult life until cancer ended her time on this earth.
She will be missed by her devoted husband, Neil David Beery, whom she married June 2, 1973, along with their children, Ruthann Weaver and husband, Kent, of Weyers Cave, Anthony Beery of Harrisonburg, James Beery of Mount Sidney, and Loretta Martin and husband, Darrell, of Goshen, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Shania, Satina and Skyler Weaver, Cheyenna, Harrison, Kaya, and Weston Martin.
Along with her father, she is survived by sisters and brothers, Wayne (Mary Jane) Weaver, Harry (Miriam) Weaver, Miriam (Roy) Ringler, Irvin (Anna Mary) Weaver, James (Karen) Weaver of Indiana, and Margaret (Willard) Martin and Erma (Gary) Showalter of Virginia.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Martin Weaver, and a granddaughter, Shelby Weaver.

MIDDLEBURY - Mervin T. Bender, 76, of Middlebury, died at 3:55 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013, at IU Health Goshen Hospital, from complications of an aneurism.
He was born Oct. 17, 1936, in Middlebury, to Cephas and Fannie (Troyer) Bender.
On June 6, 1959, in Middlebury he married Virginia "Ginger" Patton.
Survivors include his wife; children Linda (Dave) Hamilton and Randy Bender, both of Middlebury, and Larry Bender of Goshen; grandchildren Ashley Hamilton and Austin Bender; and siblings Marlene (Robert) Pletcher and Gene Bender, both of Middlebury.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Clifford Bender, sister Ida Ellen Miller and an infant sister.
He worked as a salesman in the gas industry, working many years at EZ Gas and later was a salesman in the RV industry.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 28, at First Mennonite Church, Middlebury. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury.

Jim and Jenny began international mission service in 1948 with the Congo Inland Mission, now known as Africa Inter-Mennonite Mission. Their Africa service spanned almost 37 years. Jim's work included village itineration, teaching, preaching, mentoring new personnel, translation of biblical materials, and legal representation for the mission. He also served on the Executive Committee of the Congo Mennonite Church.
In 1974, Jim and Jenny came to Elkhart, Ind., where he served as the Executive Secretary of the Mission until 1986. During that period AIMM expanded its presence and ministry into Botswana, Lesotho, the Transkei region of southern Africa, and Burkina Faso.
After retirement, Bertsche researched and wrote a history of the mission, which was published in 1998: "CIM/AIMM: A Story of Vision, Commitment, and Grace." He enjoyed speaking about his experiences in Africa and continued to write, his most recent effort being a compilation of stories recorded by African Christians.
Survived by his wife Jenny and three children, Sandra (Rod King) of Goshen, Linda (Jim Yoder) of Port au Prince, Haiti and Tim (Laura Gilbertson) of Morton, Illinois; a sister, Ruth Covington, and seven grandchildren. Local survivers include two first-cousins, Alice Niswander and Fred Steiner.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Evan Bertsche.
A Celebration of Life Service was March 9, 2013 at Silverwood Mennonite Church, Goshen, IN, Pastor Ron Guengerich will officiate. A private interment will follow at a later date.

Lorene Wedel Blanchard

Lorene Blanchard peacefully moved on to Heaven on December 13, 2013 with family by her side. She was born Lorene Wedel on December 19, 1923 in Reedley, California. In 1945 she married Martin Blanchard, her husband of 53 years, and they had three children. They began their life together in Dinuba, California. They moved to Bend, Oregon in 1950 and then back to Reedley, California in 1957 where they lived the rest of their lives together. Lorene worked for the Reedley School District and was an active member of the First Mennonite Church of Reedley.
After her retirement she worked part time at Nearly New second hand store, continued her activities at the church and volunteered at Sierra View Homes. She was a loving and giving servant of the Lord. In 2009 she became a well-loved resident of Sierra View. In June of this year she moved to Medford, Oregon to be near her son and his family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin; a son, William (Bill) Blanchard; and a daughter, Karen Blanchard Haney.
She is survived by her son, John Blanchard; five grand-children, BoJack, Marty, Brittany, Richelle and Andrew; and seven great-grandchildren; as well as by her sister, Patsy Hall and numerous nieces and nephews who all loved her very much. Her legacy of love and unselfish service to all she knew is cherished by all of us, we will miss her dearly.
A grave-side service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2013 at Reedley Cemetery, 2185 S Reed Ave, Reedley, CA 93654.

Alma L. Blosser, 85, passed away February 15, 2013 at Newton Medical Center, Newton, KS. She was born April 3, 1927 in Harper, KS the daughter of Samuel and Mamie Belle Plank Garber.
She worked at Schowalter Villa in Hesston for 35 years. Alma was also a farm wife, and taught piano lessons.
On November 23, 1947 she married Vernon F. Blosser. He passed away on September 9, 1998. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Mennonite Church which became Whitestone Mennonite Church in Hesston.
She is survived by her son Vernon (Brenda) of Hesston, daughters Karen (Daniel) White of Newton, Joletha (Wilhelm) Horn of Hutchinson, grandchildren Sarah, Laura, Samuel Blosser, Greg (Cheryl) Mason, Joy (Elan) Buller, Janelle Carr, Jennifer Henning, step-grandchildren Tami (Jim) Studer, Todd White, and great-grandchildren Josh Delgado, Jillian Ross-Mason, Natalie, Toby, and Colten Henning, and 2 step great-granchildren Keara and Taryn Studer.

Glen Blosser served on Van Buren Township trustees for 28 years
Glenn M. Blosser, 87, of Bluffton died at 1:30 a.m., April 22, 2013 at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. He was born Oct. 26, 1925, in New Stark to Paul and Grace Hostetler Blosser. On March 19, 1955, he married Mary Rich and she survives.
Mr. Blosser was a retired farmer and a Van Buren Township trustee for 28 years. He was a member of First Mennonite Church, Bluffton, where he sang in the choir. He served on the Hancock County Regional Planning Commission. He was a WWII Army veteran and helped organize an Honor Flight for area veterans to visit the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC. He was a 1943 graduate of Rawson High School.
Survivors also include two sons, Gary (Lisa) Blosser of Lima, Larry Blosser of New Stark, and three grandchildren, Shelby Blosser of Oklahoma City, Ok., and Daniel Blosser and Michael Blosser both of Lima. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Marlin Blosser.
Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Mennonite Church, Bluffton. Rev. Steven J. Yoder and Rev. Louise Wideman will officiate. Burial will be in Hasson Cemetery, Van Buren Township.

WAKARUSA - Mary L. Blucker, 95, of Miller's Merry Manor, Wakarusa, died at 6:33 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at her residence from natural causes.
She was born Oct. 11, 1917, in Milford to Reuben and Fannie (Farmwald) Yoder. On June 28, 1939, she married Martin J. Blucker in Warsaw. He preceded her in death Dec. 20, 1997.
Mary lived her lifetime in this area. She was a homemaker and loved baking and crocheting. She was a member of North Main Street Mennonite Church.
Surviving are her sons, Dale (Pat) Blucker and Lonnie (Connie) Blucker, both of Nappanee; daughter-in-law Joyce Blucker of Nappanee; grandchildren Terri Huber, Dean (Julie) Blucker, Sheri (Peter) Morey, Robert (Chanelle) Blucker and Jennifer (Rick) Schwartz; 13 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Verna (Ervin) Miller of Bourbon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son Gene Blucker; six sisters, Laura Mast, Ada Chupp, Elizabeth Stoltfus, Alma Slabaugh, Katie Hershberger and Inez Stutzman; and a brother, Melvin Yoder.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Family and friends may meet at the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, to proceed to Union Center Cemetery, east side of C.R. 11, for a 1 p.m. burial. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at North Main Street Mennonite Church. The Rev. Ruben Chupp will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be given to North Main Street Mennonite Church or The Center for Hospice Care.

TOPEKA - Floyd M. Bontrager, 82, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at Parkview LaGrange Hospital.
He was born June 18, 1931, in LaGrange County to the late Mahlon N. and Rosa (Lambright) Bontrager.
On Nov. 20, 1951, he married Wilma Miller.
Surviving are his wife; daughter LeAnna Yutzy of Nottawa, Mich.; grandchildren Marcus, Julie, Darin and Bethany Yutzy; sisters Katie Knepp of Topeka and Susie (Freeman) Lehman of Shipshewana; brothers Elmer (Katie) Bontrager of Topeka and Menno (Marilyn) Bontrager of Middlebury.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Clara Bontrager.
Floyd was owner/operator of Honeyville Furniture and worked at local trailer factories. He was a member of Old Order Amish Church, and served as a minister. He and his wife wintered in Florida.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, and all day Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at the family home. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at the family home. Burial will be in Honeyville Cemetery, Topeka.

ELKHART - Leona E. Bontrager, 77, of Bemidji, Minn., most recently of Elkhart, died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, July 4, 2013, at Hubbard Hill Estates, Elkhart.
She was born March 25, 1936, in Middlebury to Henry and Sarah (Hochstetler) Miller. On June 12, 1955, she married Alvin J. Bontrager in Goshen. He died Nov. 8, 2011.
Surviving are children Dawn (Lin Hoppel) Bontrager of Mishawaka, Daryl (Marlisa) Yoder-Bontrager of Lancaster, Pa., Duane (Anne Martin) Bontrager of Harrisonburg, Va., and Dennis (Jane) Bontrager of Goshen; nine grandchildren; and siblings Ruth (Jesse) Beachy of Gladys, Va., Elena (Amzie) Yoder of Albuquerque, N.M., Thomas (Naomi) Miller of Middlebury and Simon Miller of Goshen.
She was preceded in death by siblings Jesse and Alpha Miller, Mary Bontrager and Martha Swartzentruber.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, Middlebury. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2013, at Pleasant View Mennonite Church, Goshen.

MIDDLEBURY - Levi Harold Bontrager, 82, of Middlebury, died at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at Regina General Hospital, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.
He was born July 18, 1931, in Arthur, Ill., to Henry and Mary (Plank) Bontrager.
Surviving are his children, Eva (Tom) Kurtz, Dorothy (Lee) Bontrager and Steve Bontrager, all of Middlebury, and Ken (Liz) Bontrager of Elkhart; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and sisters Lydia (Stanley) Yoder of Middlebury and Anna (Ed) Yoder of Kalona, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Joan Bontrager; and brothers Edwin and Daniel Bontrager.
Levi was self-employed delivering RVs and was mechanically inclined, being able to work in several different fields.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at the funeral home. Services will be conducted by Pastor Jason Proffitt. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury.

LAGRANGE - Orville Dean Bontrager, 49, of LaGrange, died at 12:45 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at home.
He was born Aug. 12, 1964, in LaGrange County, to Lester M. and Edna (Weaver) Bontrager.
Survivors in addition to his mother are three brothers, Calvin Ray Bontrager and Paul Devon (LeEtta) Bontrager, both of LaGrange, and Kenny Wayne (Edna) Bontrager of Topeka; eight nephews; seven nieces; four great-nephews; five great-nieces; nine aunts; and three uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father, two nephews, four aunts and one uncle.
He was a member of Old Order Amish Church.
Visitation will be all day Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at the family's home, 6055 W. 050 S., LaGrange. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at Earl Yoder's home, 6100 W. 050 S., LaGrange. Services will be conducted by Bishop John Mishler and the home ministers. Burial will be in Yoder Cemetery, Shipshewana.

SHIPSHEWANA - Lydia B. Bontreger, 91, died at 11:07 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, at her residence.
She was born in LaGrange County to Benjamin and Lizzie (Miller) Bontrager. On May 16, 1987, in LaGrange County, she married Elmer M. Bontreger. He died June 25, 2012.
Surviving are stepchildren Glen (Polly Anna) Bontreger, Eldon Ray (Sheila) Bontreger, Perry (Mary Lou) Bontreger, Vernon (Sue) Bontreger, Ora (Christine) Bontreger, Mary (Ez) Ropp of Middlebury, Waneta (Raymond) Yoder, Esther Ellen (Phillip) Yoder, Edna Mae (Wilbur) Bontrager, Freda (Lee) Richardson, Carolyn Bontreger and Ruth (Orla) Bontrager; 45 stepgrandchildren; 130 great-stepgrandchildren; and two great-great-stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by son-in-law Elmer Eash and siblings Manasses, Joseph and Noah Bontrager, Saloma Mast and Barbara Gingerich.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, and all day Wednesday, April 24, at the family's residence, 3500 N. 500 W., Shipshewana. She was born Jan. 24, 1927, in LaGrange County, to Eli S. and Sarah (Herschberger) Lehman.
She married Eli D.S. Borkholder.
He survives along with sons Willis (Freida) Borkholder and Owen (Carolyn) Borkholder, both of Nappanee and Eli Jr. (Ruth) Borkholder and Allen (Sharon) Borkholder, both of Bremen; daughters Viola (Willard) Miller of New Paris, Lucy (Darryl) Hochstetler of Nappanee and Susie (Randal) Hochstetler of Bremen; 45 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; four great-stepgrandchildren; two brothers; and three sisters.
The family will receive friends after 2 p.m. today, Jan. 21, 2013, at the family home, 2058 E. B. Road, Bremen, and all day Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, also at the family home. Funeral services are at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at Emory Kaufman's home, 1699 B. Road, Bremen. Bishop Wilbur Kuhns and the Home Ministry will officiate. Burial will follow in Borkholder Cemetery.

SHIPSHEWANA - Herb Borkholder, 55, died at 1 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at his residence after a two-year battle with cancer.
He was born Aug. 27, 1958, in Douglas County, Ill., to the late Roman and Bertha (Miller) Borkholder.
On May 15, 1980, in Shipshewana, he married LaVera Yoder.
She survives, as do children Jeana Borkholder, Judi (Norm) Bontreger of Goshen, Cheri (special friend Anthony Faucett) Borkholder and Cara Borkholder, both of Shipshewana, and James (Viviane) Borkholder of Middlebury; grandchildren Carson, Kelsi, Jakoby and Jaxon Bontreger and Augustine Borkholder; and siblings Ruby Borkholder, Judy (Howard) Diener, Mervin (Wilma) Borkholder, John (Susan) Borkholder of Nappanee and Lynn Borkholder.

She was born July 26, 1937, to Edward and Elizabeth (Yoder) Stutzman. She married Toby R. Borntrager on Oct. 2, 1958.
She leaves to mourn: her husband; daughters Barbara Ann (Dan) Borntrager of Goshen, Bettie (Wilbur) Troyer, Fannie Mae (Daniel Jr.) Borntrager, Ida (Aaron Jay) Miller, Susan (Amos Jr.) Borntrager and Edna Ellen (Marion) Beechy, all of Etna Green, Martha (LaVern) Yoder and Esther Irene Borntrager, both of Nappanee, and Nettie (Harley) Schwartz of Akron; 47 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; five sisters; and six brothers.

Don was a member of Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, having accepted Christ as his personal Savior on December 1, 1946. He served there as trustee, junior department superintendent, and Sunday school teacher. He volunteered his time for many church causes, including a mission trip to Arajuno, Ecuador in February 2010 to construct a church. He served as an orderly in 1-W Public Health Service in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was an agent for Mennonite Mutual Aid Insurance also served on the Board of Directors.
Survived by his wife, Eldora and his son, Mark and wife, Linda Boshart, Mt Pleasant, daughter Jan and husband Randy Shelman, Winfield, and daughter-in-law, Annette and husband, Paul Von Tersch, Wayland. He is also survived by seven grandchildren - Christopher Boshart, Katie Noll, Jackie Wilke, Jenae Peachey, Amy Tyson, Brittany Shelman and Makenzie Shelman, seven great-grandchildren, one sister, Pauline Wyse, Wayland and former exchange student and family member, Hector Urbano and wife Liliana, Bogota, Colombia, and two children Mario and Monica.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Gale, June 1995. A Celebration of Life Service was June 29,2011 at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church with Pastor Nathan Luitjens officiating. Private family burial in the Sugar Creek Cemetery will be held prior to the service.

GOSHEN - Martha M. Boss, 82, passed away Monday afternoon, Dec. 30, 2013, at Greencroft Healthcare, where she had been the past eight years.
She was born Sept. 13, 1931, in Kalispell, Mont., to Silas and Elma (Sutter) Mast.
She married Paul D. Boss on Aug. 8, 1952, in Creston, Mont.
He survives along with a daughter, Elvira (Kenny) Burke of Mishawaka; a son, Ernest Boss of South Bend; two grandchildren, Kaitlin (Dan) Buzalski of Middlebury and Adam Boss of Goshen; a sister, Naomi Mast of Montana; and three brothers, Frank (Donna) Mast and Myron (Vicky) Mast, both of Montana, and Larry (Helen) Mast of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Priscilla Buller.
Friends may call from 2 until the 4 p.m. funeral service Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Terry Zehr, Sunnyside Mennonite Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Kalispell, Mont.

Claude F. Boyer, 84, of Bluffton died at 5:50 am, December 17, 2013 at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. He was born August 2, 1929 in Quakertown, PA to the late Marcus and Reda Meck Boyer. On June 29, 1952 he married Mary Maust and she survives.
Claude was a retired Mennonite minister. He served at Deep Run Mennonite Church, Bedminster, PA, First Mennonite Church, Sugarcreek, First Mennonite Church, Reedley, CA and Grace Mennonite Church, Pandora. He also had worked at Mennonite Central Committee as assistant director of volunteer services and Summer volunteer director. Claude served as President of Mennonite Central District Conference and was Central District reporter to The Mennonite Weekly Review. He was active with Habitat for Humanity, enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking and will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor. He was a member of First Mennonite Church, Bluffton, a graduate of Quakertown High School, Bluffton College and received his Masters of Theology from Bethany Seminary, Chicago.
Survivors also include a son, Mark (Sandra) Boyer of New Philadelphia, a daughter, Elaine (Tom) Margo of Dover, two grandchildren, Aaron (Abby) Margo and Courtney (B.J.) Shalosky and three great grandchildren, Taylor and Tyson Shalosky and Benjamin Margo.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Boyer and an infant sister.
A memorial service will begin at 11 am, Saturday, February 1, 2014 at First Mennonite Church, Bluffton. Rev. Steven J. Yoder and Rev. Louise Wideman will officiate. Friends may call from 9:30 - 11 am Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the church. Brenneman, Mary Katherine Conrad, age 83, of Kalona, IA., died on December 30, 2013 at Pleasantview Home, Kalona. She was born March 11, 1930, in Tangent, Oregon, to Orie M. and Eda (Zehr) Conrad. On March 25, 1951, she married Lynn Brenneman at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church, near Kalona. Mary was a member of the Kalona Mennonite Church, where she was active in WMSC and taught Sunday School for many years.

She was born Jan. 10, 2005, in Lewis Township, Union County, a daughter of Levi Z. and Lauretta (Martin) Brubacker. She was the maternal granddaughter of Linus H. and Irene S. Martin, of Mifflinburg; paternal granddaughter of the late Milton L. and Leah N. Brubacker; maternal great-granddaughter of Amos L. and Frances Martin, of Terre Hill, Lydia F. Leid, of New Holland, and the late Elmer B. Leid; and paternal great-granddaughter of the late Daniel H. and Minnie B. Zimmerman and the late Amos A. and Ruth H. Brubacker.
Louise attended Mountain View Old Order Mennonite Church and school. Surviving,
in addition to her parents and grandparents, are one brother, Kevin L Brubacker, and three sisters, Renee M. Brubacker, Sharon M. Brubacker and Matilda M. Brubacker, all of Mifflinburg.
She was preceded in death by her aunt, Louise L. Martin.

Jere was a 1970 graduate of Manheim Central High School and went on to receive a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from Goshen College in Indiana. He spent 20 years as a professional in the information technology industry, providing technology solutions for corporations large and small. Jere enjoyed all types of sports and was a bicycle and motorcycle enthusiast. He was a Philadelphia Eagles fan, enjoyed playing golf and was an avid outdoorsman. He also enjoyed following family sports, riding his motorcycle and most of all spending time at the cabin in Huntingdon Co. with all his family and friends.
In addition to his loving mother and wife, he is survived by his children: a daughter, Madison G. Brubaker and son, Jordan A. Brubaker, both of Leola. Also surviving are his siblings, Jay Brubaker, husband of Kelly of Lancaster, Jim Brubaker, husband of Deb of Goshen, IN, Jan Brubaker, husband of Lynne of Akron, 2 sisters, Susan Broaddus, wife of Kerry of Lancaster, Barb Erb, wife of Kevin of Elizabethtown, PA as well as loving nieces and nephews.

Buckwalter, Royce E., age 85 of Wellman, IA died on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at his home. He was born August 15, 1928 in Cleona, PA, the son of Roy and Ruth (Books) Buckwalter. On June 1, 1951 Royce was united in marriage to Betty Jean Swartzendruber in Wellman. He was a loving husband for 62 years and devoted father of 3. He enjoyed working for his dad Roy and became the owner of the Buckwalter Motors car dealerships in Wellman and Washington. He was a member of the Wellman Mennonite Church where he served on the Church Council and other services. He was a former member of the Wellman Rotary Club where he served as President.
Survived by his wife Betty of Wellman, son Tom (Paula) Buckwalter and granddaughters Anne and Renee of Wellman, daughter Jane (Duane) Mauldin and grandchildren Anthony and Ruth of Mesa, AZ, son John (Pam) Buckwalter and grandchildren Kamryn and Jack of Scottsdale, AZ, and a sister Laura Nicholls of Palm Bay, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a step mother Marie Martin Buckwalter and a sister Mary Hudachek.

Burkholder, Miriam Thomas, of Lititz, PA was born October 14, 1930 and entered fully into the Presence of Jesus whom she loved on October 3, 2013, age 82, and although not a smoker bravely faced two lung cancers in 26 years. She donated her body to the Pennsylvania Humanities Gift Registry.
She was born in Willow Street, PA to Amos Harnish and Martha Myer Thomas.
Miriam was a dear, caring, loving mother and faithful spouse of Paul G. Burkholder nearly 64 years.
She served with her pastor husband in the South Bronx, N.Y., Corvallis, Oregon and Pipersville. Pa. Summers in the Bronx she enjoyed registering and getting children ready to send to the country through the Fresh Air Fund.
As a Licensed Graduate Practical Nurse, she worked five years at the Doylestown, PA hospital and 16 years at Ephrata Community Hospital.
Following retirement, she volunteered for two years with Mennonite Central Committee in Belle Glade, Florida as infant nurse in a day care center and taught prenatal care for teen mothers, many with HIV. Later, with their motor home, they volunteered with SOOP (Service Opportunities for Older Persons).
There wasn't anything too much for her to do for others. She lived 13 enjoyable years at Landis Homes where she volunteered placing cut flowers on dining tables, feeding persons in assisted living and driving shuttle car. She embroidered and quilted quilts for grandchildren, and made many dish cloths for family and friends.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by: daughter Judy & Jerry Stoltzfus of Goshen, IN; son Glenn & Rita (Fisher) Burkholder of Bloomington, IN; Phil Swartley husband of deceased daughter Renee of Perkasie, PA; daughter Marilyn & Frantz Brandenburg of Westboro, MO; son James & Tamara (Eckert) Burkholder of Bird-In-Hand, PA; and son Kevin and Jackie (Sabol) Andress of Denver, PA. She has 16 much loved grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Thomas. Two sisters survive, Lois Thomas, Lititz, Pa. and Rhoda Buchan, Ephrata, Pa.
Miriam is a member of the Forest Hills Mennonite Church where she and her husband served several years as pastoral visitors.
Family visitation will be Friday evening, October 18, 5-8 p.m. in the Azalea Room at Landis Homes Retirement Community and Saturday, October 19, 9-10 a.m. at the Forest Hills Mennonite Church, 100 Quarry Road, Leola, PA with Memorial Service following.

Survived by his children: David (Tisha) Burkholder of Bradenton, Florida; Sara Beth (Roland) Etter of Pandora; Carolyn (Rev. Brian) Haller of Swanton; Betty (Wayne) Yarnell of Continental; Donald (Darlene) Burkholder of Ottawa; Dean (Jini) Burkholder of Phoenix, Arizona; Janice (Joe) Edman of Bluffton; Debra (Thomas) Johnson of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; and Barbara (Guy) Verhoff of Pandora. He is also survived by 32 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. His brother-in-law, Dr. Robert (Laura) Stall, and sister-in-law Ginny (Clare) Burkholder.
Mr. Burkholder was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, and wife Elvina and siblings: Velma (Weldon) Basinger, Elda Mae Burkholder, Vera (Virgil) Allgire, Jessie (Charles) Nash, Clare Burkholder and Laura Stall.
A funeral service was Oct. 21, 2013 at Grace Mennonite Church Pandora, OH the interment followed at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Pandora. The Rev. Dennis Schmidt, pastor of Grace Mennonite Church, presiding; and Pastor Brian Haller, preaching.

Surviving are: four sons, James and his wife, Debra, of Martinsburg, Conrad, and his wife, Nancy, of Martinsburg, Donald and his wife, Nancy, of Mass., and Barry and his wife, Patty, of Ariz.; daughter-in-law, Betty Byler, Ephrata, a brother-in-law, John A. Peachey; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Jefferson and his wife, Lydia, of McAlevys Fort; and four sisters, Anna Hartzler and her husband, George, of Mount Union, Edith (Sherman) Kanagy, of Belleville, Flora Byler, of Allensville, and Emma Jane and her husband, the Rev. Nelson Roth, of Belleville.
She was preceded in death by: her husband Thomas, a son, Larry, in 2012; four sisters, her twin, Martha Peachy, Tilma Harshbarger and her husband, Daniel, Florence Vaughan and her husband, Raymond, and Ethel; and an infant brother, Raymond.
Funeral service was Oct. 4, 2013 at Grace Fellowship Church, Leamersville, PA. Private interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
